A new summer transfer market has opened and the name on everyone’s lips is, once again, Kylian Mbappé. The saga of every season remains on the pages of the newspapers the world over, despite the player publicly confirming his intention to see out his deal with his current club, staying for one extra season without renewing his deal.

The ball is firmly in PSG’s court with this potential deal/no deal, as they only have two options: sell Kylian Mbappé now or negotiate a new deal (as letting him go for free is said to not be on the cards at all). In terms of the second option given, this is where Real Madrid come into play, the team that Mbappé has dreamed of playing with all his life. The déjà vu of summers gone by are once again being reflected in another window where his future is still unknown: speculation is rife and certainties are few and far between.

‘It wouldn’t surprise me if he found an agreement with PSG’

The latest person to add their name to the endless list of commentators on the situation is Florent Malouda. The ex-Chelsea winger spoke to the English media, saying “it is only a matter of time before he plays for Real Madrid. He has that desire to wear the white shirt because he liked the team when he was young... He had the opportunity to go to Madrid and he extended his contract, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he found an agreement with PSG in the future.”

After Lionel Messi’s move to Inter Miami and Neymar’s future up in the air, the Frenchman also spoke of Mbappé's desire to have a sporting project that he believes in. “I would be very surprised if he left this summer”, Malouda said, “I think from his point of view, everything has always been clear: he wants PSG to give him a project that can fulfil his ambitions.”

Malouda says Mbappé stand-off is ‘not about money’

“This isn’t about money”, Malouda continued, “he is looking for greatness and wants to find a club that can match his talents and give him the opportunity to win the Champions League. Everybody associated with PSG and France would love him to stay, but his priority is the sports aspect and the project. He wants a competitive project and PSG have to do their part. Kylian could play for any club in the world.”

He also mentioned the possibility of Mbappé testing himself in England, with a Premier League side, and even mentioned which team the forward might end up playing for: “Eventually, I think he will try the Premier League, but right now, I don’t see any team apart from Manchester City that would attract him. It is not the right time for him to come to the Premier League.”
