AS Monaco have announced the signing of Folarin Balogun from Arsenal. The USMNT forward joins the Ligue 1 club on a deal until 2028.
The deal is worth a reported €30m ($33m) plus €10m ($11m) in add-ons. Monaco were on the lookout for a striker following Breel Embolo’s long-term injury and the departure of Kevin Volland.
Balogun’s record in 2022-23
Balogun spent last year on loan at French side Stade de Reims but returned to his parent club Arsenal at the end of the season. Playing under Reims’ highly-rated head coach Will Still in Ligue 1 in 2022-23, he scored 21 goals in 37 league games.
Monaco saw their initial offer for the 22-year-old rejected by Arsenal but have finally landed the talented goalscorer. Serie A outfit Inter were also interested in a move for the forward but eventually pulled out of the race to land the player born in New York.
