Gignac and his final mission to further cement his legendary status with Tigres

The French striker’s remarkable run in Mexico could close with a final push for silverware on two fronts.

The era of André-Pierre Gignac at Tigres is approaching its conclusion after 11 years, though the Frenchman still has a chance to add one more title with the Monterrey-based side. With time running down on a historic spell, the veteran forward is chasing a final flourish that could further cement his legacy.

Tigres, managed by Guido Pizarro, will face Nashville SC this week in the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals, hoping Gignac can lift another trophy in the club’s colors. The striker, who arrived in 2015, has won Liga MX five times, most recently in the Clausura 2023 when Tigres defeated Chivas at Estadio Akron.

Despite his domestic dominance and record-setting career in Mexico, Gignac has only secured one international title with Tigres – the 2020 CONCACAF Champions Cup. That triumph remains the club’s lone continental crown, a gap the team is now desperate to close once more.

He also featured in that year’s Club World Cup, where Tigres reached the final but fell short against Bayern Munich. It remains one of the most significant moments in the club’s history, even in defeat.

Though Gignac has become a legendary figure in San Nicolás de los Garza, the French forward intends to leave Monterrey with a second international title for Tigres. The ambition is clear: end an era not quietly, but with silverware.

Tigres chasing a historic double

Tigres face a defining stretch of the season, battling Nashville SC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals while also competing in the Clausura 2026 quarterfinals against Chivas. The schedule is relentless, with a semifinal first leg this Tuesday, a league clash on Saturday, and the return leg at home before traveling to Guadalajara for the decisive domestic tie.

Everything is still on the table – and Gignac stands at the center of it all. The striker could yet claim a sixth Liga MX title and a second CONCACAF crown in 2026, providing a fitting finale to one of the most successful foreign careers in Mexican soccer history.
