It’s bad news for Gio Reyna and the USMNT, as injuries seem to be troubling the winger once again. The Borussia Dortmund player has suffered a muscle injury, as announced on Thursday by the United States national team.

This setback comes ahead of Team USA’s upcoming matches against Canada and New Zealand during this FIFA window.

What injury does Gio Reyna have? When will he return?

In a statement, the USMNT confirmed that Reyna left training after sustaining an injury in his left groin; he subsequently returned to Germany to recover with his clubs side, Borussia Dortmund. However, no timeline was given for his return to the field.

Who has replaced Gio Reyna in the USMNT squad?

It was also announced that Chivas de Guadalajara player Cade Cowell will replace Reyna in the Kansas City training camp. Cowell, who has previously played under Mikey Varas, is being called back to the senior team. The Mexican-American footballer has made notable strides since joining Chivas from the San Jose Earthquakes.
