Giorgos Giakoumakis walks out on Cruz Azul, setting up a move for AC Milan star
The Mexican team are expected to bring in Croatian forward Luka Jovic to bolster their attacking options.

Everything indicates that Giorgos Giakoumakis’ short spell at Cruz Azul is coming to an end.
According to reports from journalist Adrián Esparza Oteo, the Greek forward did not show up for training at La Noria on Wednesday. With this latest strain on his relationship with the club, everything indicates that Giakoumakis could leave the team with which he won CONCACAF Champions Cup earlier this year.
Como bien adelanta @gerardoo_gh, ni Toro ni Giakoumakis continuarán en el equipo.

Giakoumakis has played 34 matches since arriving from Atlanta United last year and scored 9 goals. He has earned the affection of the fans, but his constant injuries caused him to gradually lose playing time and prominence to players like Gabriel ‘Toro’ Fernández and Ángel Sepúlveda.
For some, Giakoumakis will be best-remembered for the moment when commentator Raúl Orvañanos called him ‘Yukamakis’. Soon after, counterfeit jerseys wearing the moniker were seen being sold outside the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes.
Cruz Azul poised to move for Luka Jovic
According to various media reports former AC Milan striker Luka Jovic could be the player to fill the foreigner spot in Nicolás Larcamón’s squad for the 2025 Apertura.
Jovic has played for renowned teams such as Eintracht Frankfurt and Real Madrid and is a national team player for his country. He has not managed to recapture the form that saw him hit 27 goals for Frankfurst in the 2018/19 season, but at the age of 27 he still has time to rebuild his career.
Cruz Azul have a penultimate preseason match this Thursday when it faces Colombian side Once Caldas at 8:00pm. On Sunday, they will play the third-place match against either Newell’s Old Boys of Argentina or Mazatlán FC.
