Gravenberch commits to Liverpool with long-term contract extension
The Dutch midfielder said agreeing new terms “was an easy decision to make”. Negotiations continue with Szoboszlai and Konaté.
Liverpool continues its long-term team planning strategy but at least there is one less piece of the puzzle to worry about. Ryan Gravenberch signed a new deal with Reds this weekend - a contract extension that will keep him at Anfield until June 2032.
Gravenberch joined Liverpool from Bayern Munich on a five-year deal for $43 million (£34 million) in August 2023. Not in his third season at Anfield, the former Ajax youth academy graduate has made 304 appearances for the Reds and racked up a total of 29 goals in all competitions.
Dutch international
A player who has represented the Netherlands at every youth level and made his senior international debut in March 2021, Gravenberch is still only 23 (he turns 24 in May), and Liverpool’s back office feel that his best years have yet to come.
The midfielder is equally as happy to be staying on. “I felt directly the trust from the club, also from the manager. The decision for me was easy to make. My family is also happy here. We are now here almost three years, so I know everything already. I’m happy that I’m here,” he told the club’s media department. “As a player, I think I improved a lot and became a better version of myself as well. I got a lot from Liverpool. I think there will be a better version of myself in the future”.
Ibou and Dom
With Gravenberch’s future now sorted, Liverpool’s attentions turn to the contractual situations of two other first team regulars. Ibrahima Konaté has been eligible to negotiate with other clubs since January and will be able to leave as a free agent when his contract expires on June 30.
Dominik Szoboszlai meanwhile has been by far the team’s best performer during what has been an underwhelming season for the defending champions. He has two years left on his contract and his performances and figures (eight goals and seven assists) have caught the eye of a number of Liverpool’s direct rivals, including Real Madrid and Manchester City.
