Griezmann could confirm shock MLS move in March
The Frenchman has not yet made any decision on his future, but MLS is a hugely appealing option.
Atlético Madrid will respect whatever decision Antoine Griezmann makes regarding his future. The French striker has earned the right to control his own destiny and choose what best suits his interests.
Speculation about his future surfaces from time to time, but much of it remains unfounded. As of now, no decision has been made regarding what Griezmann will do for the 2025-26 season.
Griezmann has agreed with Atlético’s management to make his decision by the end of March. Until then, all parties are focused on the team’s performance—securing victories, competing for the league title, and striving for success in both the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. The team comes first.
Key to Simeone’s System
As the season progresses, Griezmann’s choice will become clearer. At 33 years old, soon to turn 34 in March, he alone will determine whether he has the desire and strength to continue playing at the highest level for another season, especially in an Atlético side with growing competition for starting roles. The forward is under contract until June 2026, giving him one more year with the club if he chooses to stay. All possibilities will be discussed.
For manager Diego Simeone, Griezmann is virtually irreplaceable. Few players possess his combination of quality, talent, team spirit, and work ethic. He knows Simeone’s style and philosophy inside out, earning the respect of his teammates, opponents, fans, and the club’s directors alike.
If Griezmann decides to stay, he will fulfil his contract until 2026. However, if he feels it’s time to move on, Atlético will respect his decision and leave the door open for his departure.
Griezmann’s American dream
Griezmann has long expressed a desire to play in Major League Soccer (MLS). He’s also stated that Atlético would be his last European club. Whether he makes the jump to MLS at the end of this season or after the next remains uncertain. For now, his performances remain stellar.
Recently, LAFC striker Olivier Giroud confirmed that “we know there have already been talks, it would be great to meet with Hugo (Lloris), the three of us, in Los Angeles".
What is Griezmann’s record this season?
This season, Griezmann has played 25 matches across all competitions (18 in La Liga, six in the Champions League, and one in the Copa del Rey). He has scored 11 goals—seven in La Liga and four in Europe—and provided six assists (four in La Liga and two in the Champions League). His productivity remains remarkably high.
Simeone has been managing Griezmann’s workload carefully. In the latter stages of matches, the coach often substitutes him, mindful of how fatigue affected the forward during the critical stretch of last season. Atlético’s deeper bench—featuring players like Sorloth, Correa, and Giuliano—allows Simeone to rotate his squad while keeping Griezmann fresh and effective.
Griezmann remains pivotal to Atlético, a true club legend. By the end of March, he will decide whether to continue scoring goals in the iconic red-and-white jersey or embark on a new chapter in the United States.
