Haaland, Bellingham, Gilberto Mora? This could be the Mexico breakout star’s first European club
Germany legend Lothar Matthäus says one of Europe’s top talent developers has already made inquiries about the 17-year-old midfielder.
After an impressive World Cup performance, 17-year-old Gilberto Mora has emerged as a target for several top European clubs, according to one of Germany’s greatest soccer legends.
Lothar Matthäus, who captained West Germany to the 1990 World Cup title, said the teenage midfielder’s talent has not gone unnoticed and revealed that Borussia Dortmund has already taken steps to learn more about his situation.
Matthäus says Dortmund has made inquiries
In his column for German newspaper Bild, Matthäus praised the Mexican teenager and highlighted the impression he made during the tournament.
“Mora, the 17-year-old from Mexico, has played four matches at this World Cup. At just 17 years old, this exceptional talent is already on the radar of many European clubs,” Matthäus wrote.
“I’ve also heard that Borussia Dortmund has made some inquiries.”
Those comments carry significant weight. Matthäus is not only one of Germany’s most decorated players and a World Cup champion, but also one of the country’s most respected soccer analysts.
European interest in Mora continues to grow
Matthäus’ remarks come as Mora continues to establish himself as one of Mexico’s brightest young prospects. His breakout performances at the World Cup dramatically raised his international profile, and speculation about a move to Europe is growing stronger with each passing week.
If Borussia Dortmund follows through on its interest, Mora would join a long list of elite prospects, such as Erling Haaland, Jude Bellingham and Ousmane Dembélé, who used the Bundesliga club as a launching pad before becoming stars on the biggest stage in world soccer.
