Haaland equals Cristiano Ronaldo feat with UCL triumph
Manchester City’s Champions League victory over Inter Milan enabled Erling Haaland to equal a historical record set by Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008.
Manchester City reached a number historical milestones with their victory over Inter Milan in Saturday’s Champions League final - they lifted the trophy for the first time and became just the second English club to complete the treble.
It was also a significant moment for Erling Haaland, who equalled a feat which up until last night only Cristiano Ronaldo had achieved.
Cristiano and Haaland are the only two footballers in the history of English football that have managed to win both the Premier League and the Champions League, finished as the top scorers in both competitions as well as being named Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers Association (FWA) - all in the same season.
Haaland had a dream first season with City - after winning the treble, next season Pep Guardiola’s team will have the chance to compete for the sextuple.
The Norwegian striker registered 52 goals and nine assists in all competitions in 2022/23 - not bad at all for a debut season.
After equalling Cristiano Ronaldo’s historic record, it seems that Haaland is destined for the football elite, at just 22 years old, he is already winning everything in his path.
