Manchester City kept their 100% winning start in the 24-25 Premier League intact on Saturday after the Sky Blues beat Brentford in Manchester.

Norwegian striker Erling Haaland was City’s hero again finding the net twice against the ‘Bees’ and his double on Saturday saw the player move to nine Premier League goals from the opening four games.

With his nine strikes, Haaland created a new record of the highest goal tally after the first four games of a Premier League season.

The previous Premier League four game scoring record belonged to Wayne Rooney in the opening of the 2011-12 season with the current Plymouth Argyle coach going on to bag 27 goals in the 34 games he played throughout that season with Manchester United.

Haaland falls one goal short of another historic record

The Norwegian was also on the cusp of creating more history at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday but fell one goal short. Should Haaland have found the target for the third time against Brentford, he would have become the first player to score three consecutive hat-tricks in English football for the first time in 78 years, something that has not been seen since Liverpool’s Jack Balmer achieved the milestone in 1946.

The 24-year-old has now found the net 99 times for Man City in 103 appearances for the club.
