Update:

One of Cruz Azul’s standout performers in recent tournaments has been goalkeeper Kevin Mier. The Colombian shot-stopper, who joined the Liga MX club in January 2024, has quickly become a key figure in La Máquina’s recent success.

Mier’s stellar performances between the posts earned him a call-up to the Colombian national team, where he recently made his debut as a starter.

A transfer to Turkey?

His growing profile has caught the attention of several clubs - particularly in Europe - and now, a major Turkish side appears to be leading the chase.

During the Mexican TV broadcast of the Copa por el Bienestar clash between Cruz Azul and Mineros, it was reported that Galatasaray is eyeing the 25-year-old.

While no further details were provided regarding the status of negotiations, it’s clear Mier already has a serious suitor on the European stage.

“I’ve received information [...] that Galatasaray of Turkey seems to be the most interested in securing the services of the Colombian goalkeeper,” said reporter Elías Quijada during the match coverage.

A CONCACAF champion

Mier is a trophy winner with Cruz Azul, having helped the team capture the CONCACAF Champions Cup in what was Vicente Sánchez’s final match with the club. He’s currently in preseason training with the squad in Zacatecas, where they’ve been competing in the Copa por el Bienestar.

That tournament, however, marked an early setback for new head coach Nicolás Larcamón. Cruz Azul was eliminated in the semi-finals by Mineros in a penalty shootout.

Mier was subbed off before the spot-kicks, with Andrés Gudiño stepping in - though he was unable to make a decisive save. Despite missing out on the final, Cruz Azul will still play for third-place playoff against the loser of the Chivas vs Santos semi-final.
