The story that is now so long it could be brought out in hardback seems to genuinely have no end. Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano is giving Kylian Mbappé a run for his money with a transfer saga of will-he-won’t-he that has dragged on all summer long.

His future seems to lie away from Napoli and Italian life, as the Mexican forward has been linked with clubs across the globe from Saudi Arabia to MLS - and now it might be time to spin it again. The winger, according to Canale 8 in Italy, is picking up interest from the southern region of the Iberian peninsula: more specifically, Sevilla are said to be eyeing up the former PSV forward.

Victor Orta takes over as Sevilla sporting director

The new sporting director, Victor Orta, took over from Monchi in the summer after leaving Leeds relegated to the second division and has now got transfer control of Europa League record winners, Sevilla, at the top end of Spain’s first division. Sevilla are known for their shrewd market business, so it remains to be seen if the man who relegated Leeds can keep up the work done to put Sevilla firmly in the elite level of sport in the world.

The Mexican was included in the squad list for the Italian champions at the start of the 23/24 season, despite there being no agreement on his future and the impasse regarding a proposed salary reduction. Canale 8 says that Sevilla, where Mexican Jesús Corona plays, are interested in taking on the player and are ready to start negotiating with the Italian side in order to bring him to Spain; the report says Sevilla are willing to offer a fee to make the deal easier for Napoli.

How much would Sevilla pay for Hirving Lozano?

It is also worth remembering that just a few days ago, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentis wanted to take around €25 million from any sale of Hirving Lozano, something which might make Sevilla a bit more hesitant: LaLiga is not the Premier League and many Spanish clubs simply don’t have the funds to be able to sign players as will like in England. For now, it is no stretch to say that the fee asked for by Napoli may be a sticking point in negotiations.

Sevilla had an incredible end to their season: after struggling at the beginning of the campaign towards the bottom of the table with relegation looming for one of Spain’s greats, José Luis Mendilibar entered the scene and turned their fortunes around, guiding the team all the way to Europa League glory against AS Roma.
