Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano speaks out after returning to PSV: “I wanted a change”
The Mexican attacker left Italy and will now wear the famous red and white PSV shirt again in the Eredivisie.
Despite rushing around in the final hours of the transfer market, PSV were able to complete the return of Mexican forward Hirving Lozano for a reported fee of €15m ($16.2m) on a deal until 2028, putting an end to his time in Napoli.
“Many things came together”, he said when explaining how the move came about. “I returned to the club because of Marcel Brands and I wanted a change in my life. I am happy with the choice. I have already experienced many wonderful things here and returning was the right decision. I feel like I’m doing well, I’m working hard and getting as ready as possible as quickly as possible. I hope the coach gives me time to play on Saturday,” he said.
Why did Lozano move back to PSV?
“My family played an important role in my choice. When we heard about the return, everyone immediately became very excited. I also think I would have gone to PSV if the club had not qualified for the Champions League. I wanted to help the team, so that would have been an option,” he explained.
Regarding the squad, the Mexican admitted that he feels motivated to earn a place in a team with a high level of talent, saying “it is important to have competition between [the players]. They are all good players and good kids. I like competition, that’s who I am.”
“The game depends on the coach” he continued, “but I am going to give everything in every game and in every training game”.
What is Hirving Lozano’s record for PSV?
Hirving Lozano spent three seasons with PSV Eindhoven, where he played 74 games and scored 40 goals as well as getting 23 assists. The Mexican was a key part of the side that won the Eredivisie in the 2017-2018 campaign.
PSV’s next game is against NEC on September 16 in the Eredivisie before facing Arsenal in their first game of the Champions League Group Stage for the 23/24 season. The Dutch side will also come up against Lens and Europa League champions Sevilla in the rest of the first round.
