Houston Dynamo approach El Salvador manager Hugo Pérez

The Major League Soccer side is looking to appoint a new manager after failing to qualify for the playoffs in the Western Conference.

Update:
Afición de Estados Unidos pide a Hugo Pérez como técnico del USMNT

Houston Dynamo finished in 13th place in the Western Conference and in mid-season the people in charge decided to part ways with head coach Paulo Nagamura and appointed Kenny Bundy as the interim manager for the remainder of the campaign. The Dynamo didn’t qualify for the MLS Cup playoffs and they are looking to appoint a new head coach prior to the start of the 2023 preseason.

According to The Athletic, the Dynamo and former DC United manager Ben Olsen are ‘engaged in discussions about the head coaching job.’ Per report, Houston have also sat down with El Salvador national team manager Hugo Pérez about taking the coaching job for the 2023 MLS regular season.

Does Pérez wants to leave the El Salvador job?

The El Salvador national team lost 4-1 against Perú in their last friendly during the September international window and he expressed his discontent with the performance of his players during the post-game press conference. Pérez even talked about the possibility of parting ways if things didn’t improve in the near future.

“Someone has to evaluate me as well. I make a self-criticism and I think the players should do it as well because it is their responsibility. I have to do a self-evaluation and consider if I should continue in charge or not. So if the best solution for the national team is for me to step aside and bring someone new, I don’t have a problem,” said Pérez during an interview with journalist Mauricio Rivas.
