Update:

The second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinal kicks off from the Estadio Universitario on Tuesday night and Tigres UANL have the advantage over Nashville SC after a 1-0 win in Tennessee. We head to Mexico for the second leg with everything still to play for from San Nicolas de los Garza.

Nashville SC

Nashville have lived and died with their defense in the MLS and in the CCC, but their lack of attacking options came back to haunt them in the first leg of the semifinal last week. Now they have to head to Mexico and look for a win in enemy territory against a Tigres side that has been rolling.

Through three rounds of CCC play, Nashville gave up just one goal on their way to the semis. The goal came against Inter Miami in the second leg of their round of 16 match, and it came from Lionel Messi in the 7th minute. Christian Espinoza scored the equalizer away from home to give Nashville the edge in that tie on away goals. They won their first round tie 7-0 on aggregate against Atletico Ottawa and then played seven time champions Cruz Azul with a Hany Mukhtar goal in the 51st minute of the second leg. That was the only goal of the 180 minute tie and it was enough to move Nashville on to their first semifinal of the CCC.

Nashville kept a clean sheet against the Philadelphia Union over the weekend but their goal scoring troubles rose to the surface once again. They drew 0-0 in the City of Brotherly Love and now turn their attention to the second leg of the semifinal. They have scored 21 goals in the league and allowed just 6, and their success in the league and the CCC is attributed to their keeper Brian Schwake. He has been their rock and will need a heroic performance on Tuesday night.

Tigres UANL

Tigres are in poll position after going into Nashville and coming out with a 1-0 win on the road. Now they return to their fortress that is the Estadio Universitario looking to get back to the final of the CCC for the first time since 2020.

They got through the first round with ease, breezing past Forge FC with a 4-1 aggregate over the Canadian based club. Things got a little messy in the round of 16 when they took on FC Cincinnati and lost 3-0 on the road. They would bounce back and topple Cincinnati with a 5-1 win at home to make it to the quarters. They would then face the Seattle Sounders and win the first leg 2-0 at home and then drew 3-3 in the Pacific Northwest to qualify for the semis.

Tigres had a massive match against Guadalajara Chivas in the first leg of the Clausura playoffs and beat the second placed team 3-1 before having to head to Guadalajara for the second 90 minutes. They will be fully focused on a return trip to the final on Tuesday, but they are going to have to defend their 1-0 lead in front of their home fans.
