Barcelona are still waiting for LaLiga to approve their financial viability plan, which would give them the green light to bring Lionel Messi back to Camp Nou from Paris Saint-Germain. The re-signing of the Argentinian has is the club’s number one objective this summer but time is of the essence with the Spanish league delaying their ruling on whether or not the Catalans can go ahead and sign new players.

Messi swaying towards Saudi Arabia move

According to various reports, Messi is swaying towards accepting an offer from Saudi Pro League team Al Hilal, with no formal approach having been made from his former club. As a result, Barça are looking into a more creative way to ensure he ends up back where he started his career.

French newspaper L’Équipe report that MLS club Inter Miami would be involved. It is no secret that the Herons, owned by former Real Madrid and Manchester United star David Beckham, have been chasing the Argentina captain’s signature for some time. However, the issues they face are two-fold: they can’t offer Messi elite-level soccer like in Europe, and they don’t possess the finances of Al Hilal, who the PSG playmaker will almost certainly sign for if he moves to a different continent.

How would Barça and Inter Miami work together to sign Messi?

But L’Équipe claim Barça and Inter Miami could work together to reach an outcome that would suit both clubs. The MLS side would sign Messi on a permanent deal from the Ligue 1 champions then immediately send him on loan to Catalonia for anything between six and 18 months. That would allow Messi to continue playing at the very highest level up until the 2024 Copa América before winding down his career in MLS.
