SERIE A
How does Juventus points deduction affect their season?
On Monday the punishment was announced, and that puts a different perspective on the Old Lady’s 2022/23 campaign.
In January Juventus were handed a 15 point penalty related to their financial manipulation over player transfers. This was then scrapped with a new hearing to take place. On Monday the announcement came from the Federal Court of Appeal that the famous Italian club would be docked 10 points.
Juventus slide down Serie A after sanctions
Just moments before the evening game against Empoli in the league, the news broke that the Old Lady would lose 10 points from this season’s total. Going into this match, Juve sat second in Serie A on 69 points, with Napoli having already clinched the title.
Valuable Champions League spots for next season are, however, at stake - the top four qualifying for UEFA’s top competiton - and the punishment sees the club slide down to seventh.
Now on 59 points (but the Empoli game being one in hand over those above) AC Milan jump up to fourth on 64 points. Here is how the table stands:
1 - Napoli 86
2 - Lazio 68
3 - Inter 66
4 - Milan 64
5 - Atalanta 61
6 - Roma 60
7 - Juventus 59 (having played one less)
