Real Madrid will be at Wembley on 1 June 2024 after Carlo Ancelotti’s team eliminated Bayern Munich in the semifinals and will face another German team in the Champions League final. Borussia Dortmund overcame PSG and will now aim to beat the team that has played the most finals in this tournament’s history – including the old European Cup. In total, Los Blancos have played 17 times to lift the title, winning 14 of them.

Therefore, this will be the 18th final of the continent’s premier club competition that the Madridistas will be a part of. Behind Real Madrid on this list come AC Milan and Bayern Munich, both with 11 finals under their belt, and then Liverpool with 10.

When did Real Madrid last lose a Champions League final?

Real Madrid has only lost three Champions League finals across those 17 appearances to date. The first was in the 1961/62 season against Benfica at the Olympish Stadion (Amsterdam) by the score of 5-3. The second, in 1963/64 was against Inter, 3-1 in Vienna.

The last final that the meringues lost was against Liverpool in the 1980/81 season in Paris. The Spanish team hasn’t known what it’s like to lose a final since then, a massive 43 years later. Now the club and fans dream of another magical night, this time at Wembley, London, with number 15 on the line.
