Las Vegas, the renowned world headquarters of entertainment, has recently hosted the Mexican national team. Commonly known as ‘Sin City,’ Las Vegas has consistently shown enthusiasm whenever the national squad plays there. However, in the last two games, the excitement for the Tricolor has waned, and this decline is evident in the stadium attendances.

Mexico crowds in Las Vegas

The initial encounter for Mexico in Las Vegas took place on February 8, 2017, when they narrowly defeated Iceland in a friendly match held at Henderson County’s Sam Boyd Stadium. During that event, a total of 30,617 spectators attended the game, setting a record for the highest number of fans at a soccer match in the city.

Following their game against Iceland, the Tricolor returned to Las Vegas in 2021 for the Gold Cup Final against the United States. On this occasion, the team played at the newly inaugurated Allegiant Stadium for the first time. The official attendance for this showdown was 61,114 spectators, but unfortunately for El Tri, the victory belonged to the United States.

More recently, on June 18, 2023, Mexico once again faced the United States at Allegiant Stadium, this time for the Concacaf Nations League semifinals. The northern neighbors triumphed over the Tricolor with a resounding 3-0 victory in front of a sold-out crowd of 65,000 spectators. It was at this point that discontent among the Aztec fans began to surface.

In the subsequent duel for the third place, also held at Allegiant Stadium, Mexico garnered support from 35,000 fans as they emerged victorious against Panama. Nearly a month later, the Tricolor returned to the Las Vegas venue, only to find an abundance of empty seats and even resale tickets available for a mere $22.
