The club had put him up for sale and despite Neymar cutting his holiday short by a week to return to Paris and sign a contract extension up to 2027 by triggering a unilateral clause in his contract the rumors did not go away until the season began. However, far from destabilizing the Brazilian, Neymar has risen to the occasion to the point of becoming PSG’s best player at the start of the 2022-23 campaign.
Neymar tops Europe in goal contributions
Looking exclusively at Neymar’s statistics in Ligue 1, the Brazilian has the best numbers this season across Europe’s five major leagues. The former Barcelona forward has scored eight goals and provided six assists, totalling 14 goal contributions in Ligue 1. Erling Haaland, who is proving unstoppable in the Premier League, is second on the list with 11 goals and an assist while Leo Messi (three goals and seven assists) and Robert Lewandowski (eight goals and two assists) complete the podium.
Neymar has also increased his collective commitment this season, receiving praise from Christophe Galtier, who said the Brazilian is the attacking player most capable within his squad of performing the defensive tasks being asked of them.
