This Tuesday, December 19, the MLS SuperDraft will be held. In the 25th edition of this event, there are several names that arouse some attention due to the enormous talent and potential they have shown in order to reinforce the 29 franchises in a division that is becoming more competitive every match day.

Teams will select players in reverse order of their regular season standings. Therefore, the bottom team of the season in MLS (Toronto FC, 22 points in the 2023 regular season) will have the opportunity to pick first among the nearly 900 players eligible for this edition of the SuperDraft. This selection process closely resembles that of other U.S. sports such as the NBA and NFL.

What position are Inter Miami in for the MLS SuperDraft?

This format, on this particular occasion, greatly benefits an Inter Miami side that ultimately were not able to turn around a poor start to the year. The Florida franchise will have their pick at the No. 3 position as the third lowest ranked team this season: a prime position to pick some of the best players available in this draw.

Inter Miami target a defender

According to the so-called ‘Mock SuperDraft’ that predict the picks of each of the teams, says that Inter Miami has a good chance of selecting Nate Jones, a promising sophomore central defender from the University of Washington.

Nate Jones: a profile

Jones is a quality, young centre-back for an attacking team like Inter Miami. A potential rough diamond, Jones already possesses a great aerial game in both areas and a very aggressive one-vs-one style of play. He usually occupies the left side of the back line and from there, he can either get forward or comfortably distribute the ball to fullbacks and midfielders.

Undoubtedly, Jones’ great quality is his privileged physique. His enormous stride and natural strength make the youngster the most outstanding defender of the year in the NCAA. One potential aspect of his game to improve, however, would be his patience when it comes to rushing the play and his decision making in high-pressure situations.
