So, the final of the Spanish Super Cup will be Real Madrid against Barcelona, just as everybody wanted. Especially the half-full stadiums. Los Blancos will take on the blaugrana on Sunday 15 January at 8pm Spanish time, 2pm ET and 11am PT.

Real Madrid defeated Valencia in the other semi-final, which also went all the way to penalties. Valencia grew into the game and made it a tough test for Ancelotti’s side, who performed their typical magic trick of lying down in the magic box, being cut in two by a huge saw and coming out on the other side. “It was a complicated game, a night of suffering”, Ancelotti said after the match, and one can’t help but get the feeling that the Italian is not as calm as his on-camera persona appears to be.

Lucas Vázquez is making a trip to the injury room after suffering an ankle sprain: he will be out for over a month, adding to the headache Ancelotti already has with the defensive issues that are sticking around like a bad smell. The word going round is that youngster Vinicius Tobias from Castilla will be promoted in order to help cover the gap left by Lucas.
Eduardo Camavinga has a knock and is a doubt, although his injury is not seen as one that will keep him out for long (if at all) and he was even able to take part in training. Éder Militão left the field early against Valencia after taking a ball in the face but also completed the training session.
Aurélien Tchouaméni and David Alaba are not fit and did not travel to Saudi Arabia, as told on Tuesday.
