CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

How many times have Borussia Dortmund won the Champions League?

Edin Terzic’s men will be the underdogs against Real, although the Germans will try to win the trophy in Marco Reus’ last season.

Update:
Edin Terzic’s men will be the underdogs against Real, although the Germans will try to win the trophy in Marco Reus’ last season.

Borussia Dortmund will play one of their most important games in a few hours. The German side will take on Real Madrid in the 2023-24 Champions League final, where the Spanish giants are heavily favored to come out on top.

They were under the radar at the start of this campaign’s UCL edition and when the group stage tirage au sort was made, not many gave Dortmund chances of making it to the knockout rounds, as they had to deal with dangerous teams like PSG, AC Milan and Newcastle.

However, Edin Terzic’s players performed brilliantly when most needed and advanced to the next round in style, clinching the group’s top position.

After beating PSV in the round of 16, they dispatched Atletico Madrid at Signal Iduna Park after losing the game in Madrid. In the semis, they took on PSG, who had a draw and a win over the German side in the group stage. However, Dortmund learned from their mistakes and got the better of Kylian Mbappe’s team this time.

Have Borussia Dortmund ever won the Champions League?

The Black and Yellow will hope to reign supreme in London despite the odds giving Real Madrid a better chance of lifting the trophy.

Although they haven’t been as successful as their Spanish opponents, Dortmund have what it takes to put Real in trouble, and they know what it feels like to win the Champions League. Borussia are on the list of few times to have reached glory in the European most important title, as they won it once.

The club’s biggest European feat happened in the 1996-97 season when they defeated Juventus in the final.

Dortmund, led by coach Ottmar Hitzfeld, finished second in Group B, behind Atletico Madrid. After that, they eliminated Auxerre in the quarterfinals and defeated Manchester United in the semis.

Borussia won 3–1, with goals from Karl-Heinz Riedle and Lars Ricken. Alessandro Del Piero scored the Italian’s squad goal.
