Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos added a sixth Champions League trophy on Saturday, bringing to a close one of the most decorated club careers of modern times.

Kroos made his professional debut with German giants Bayern Munich in 2007 and would go on to represent the team for seven years. In 2014, after helping the German national team to a World Cup triumph, he made the move to the Spanish capital.

He went on to be a key part of the Madrid midfield for a decade, spending ten trophy-laden seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu. With the most recent triumph he has now won the Champions League five times with Madrid, in addition to the European title he won with Bayern as part of their 2012/13 treble-winning team.

How many titles has Toni Kroos won?

Over the course of his stellar career Kroos has won an incredible 33 major trophies. Of those, ten were won with Bayern and 22 with Real Madrid. The 2014 World Cup with Germany completes his collection, although he could still pick up this summer’s Euros with Germany.

The final act of his storied career will be to represent his nation on home soil. Kroos initially retired from the German national team in in 2021 but was tempted out of retirement for Euro 2024.

Guys, short and painless: I will play for Germany again from March,” Kroos wrote, announcing his decision earlier this year. “Why? Because I was asked by the national coach, I’m up for it and I’m sure that a lot more is possible with the team at the European Championships than most people believe!”

When is Toni Kroos’ last game?

For Madridistas, the sudden news of Toni Kroos’ imminent retirement will have come as a big shock. Now 34, the German was certainly reaching the end of his stellar career but had been one of Madrid’s best performers in a season in which they regained the LaLiga title and still have a Champions League final to contest.

The final against Borussia Dortmund was Kroos’ final game for Real Madrid. His last game at the Santiago Bernabeu came at the end of the LaLiga campaign as Real Madrid completed their championship-winning domestic season with a home game against Real Betis on Saturday 25 May. The game ended as a goalless draw but it gave Toni Kroos the chance to say goodbye to the stadium that he has lit up for a decade.

Kroos’ final game in professional soccer will come this summer. He will represent Germany on home soil, looking to add the only major trophy that he is yet to win in his illustrious career. Germany have group stage fixtures against Scotland, Hungary and Switzerland but Kroos will hope that his swansong tournament last a little longer than that.
