The transfer washing machine continues to spin and throw out various combinations of colours and t-shirts that nobody thought were possible, and this time we have a special mix on our hands: everything seems to point towards Real Betis midfielder, Sergio Canales, signing for Liga MX side, CF Monterrey.
José Antonio Noriega, the president of Rayados, has in fact travelled to Spain and has said that a “document has been signed” and that the only thing left is “a few legal papers”. The 32-year-old will arrive in Mexico after 15 years playing in Spain, having featured for clubs such as Valencia, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad.
How much did Rayados pay for Canales? What is his salary?
The numbers are, at the moment, undisclosed. However, the figures mainly sit around €10 million and arrive at a total of €15 million once variables are taken into account. It would certainly be one of the standout signings of the summer, and one that would signify a huge step up in the level of the Rayados squad.
According to reports from Sevilla, the player will become the highest earner in the league, above the wage of current top-earner, André-Pierre Gignac (€4.8m per year), and will take home a salary of €15 million over three years.
Canales, despite being 32, is one of LaLiga’s most creative and elegant players, and won the Copa del Rey in 2022 as well as the 2023 Nations League with Spain. It is thought that the player will travel to Mexico in the coming days to finalise the deal.
