How much money does Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola make? Salary and contract details
The Catalan is among the highest-paid coaches in the world and could justify his salary by guiding City to the treble.
Out of all of football’s great tacticians, Pep Guardiola is up there with the smartest and most successful. He enjoyed unparalleled success during his four years at the helm at Barcelona, becoming the first coach to guide a team to a clean sweep of six trophies - even today, only two clubs in world football have managed such a feat - Bayern Munich being the other club to have won the fabled Sextuple.
Treble chance
Guardiola is on the cusp of another remarkable achievement. If his City side manage to beat Inter Milan in Saturday’s Champions League final, he will become only the second manager in history to have achieved the classic English treble. Sir Alex Ferguson is the only manager to have pulled off the treble in England - his Manchester United side lifted the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League in 1998/9, doing what only a handful of clubs have even come close to.
Since Guardiola accepted the job in 2016, 11 major trophies have landed in City’s trophy room and while he didn’t win the Premier League in his first season in England, Pep’s City have been crowned champions every year since bar on - 2020, when Liverpool beat them to top spot. City are now the second most successful club of the Premier League era with seven titles, but with some way to catch up with their crosstown rivals, United, who have 13.
Unsurprisingly, Guardiola commands one of the top salaries in the game. In the overall ranking of football’s top earners, he is the second best paid coach in the world, after Atleti’s Diego Simeone. The 52-year-old earns a basic gross salary of £20 million ($24.9 million) for his role as Man City manager which will be boosted by objective-related bonuses. Winning the treble could allow the boss to pocket a significant bonus of anywhere between £500,000 to £1 million.
On top of his salary, Guardiola has extra income from various sponsorship deals. For example he has been a brand ambassador for Japanese car manufacturers Nissan since 2019. In November, he signed a contract extension that will keep him at the Etihad until June 2025.
