REAL MADRID

How much money will Real Madrid make per year from Kylian Mbappé and the new Bernabéu?

The LaLiga giants expect the arrival of Mbappé, combined with the renovation of Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, to significantly increase their annual revenue.

Real Madrid believe their accounts are set to be boosted to the tune of €350 million (over $380 million) per year following the arrival on a free transfer of Kylian Mbappé to strut his stuff at the “new and improved” Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. While Mbappé's superstar status - and related image rights - will line the LaLiga giants’ pockets, so too will their renovated home stadium, whose ability to generate revenue from games and non-soccer events alike will turn it into the club’s latest “galáctico”.

Real Madrid expect huge annual stadium revenue increase after Bernabéu renovation

The total cost of completely upgrading the Santiago Bernabéu will be at least €1.16 billion ($1.26 million). That figure is the amount that has been borrowed to complete the project, although it could ultimately rise as the club still has to pay interest on three loans it took out to carry out the work.

Madrid predict the short-term expenditure will be well worth it in the long-term, however, as they expect annual stadium revenue to increase by 109.2% from €152 million ($165.15 million) to approximately €318 million ($345.51 million), which is said to be a conservative estimate.

How much extra revenue could Real Madrid make directly from the signing of Mbappé?

Now, Los Blancos can add Mbappé into the mix. As per the contract he has signed, 30% of the Frenchman’s image rights will be shared with Real Madrid (the player himself owned 100% while at PSG).

While the exact amount the forward makes from advertising hasn’t been made public, it is believed to have been somewhere in the region of €30 million ($32.59 million) per year in recent times. That would net the club around €9 million ($9.78 million) each season, although the Mbappé brand is expected to grow - and thus generate more money - once his career in Spain gets properly underway.

With that in mind, Madrid are hopeful their new signing and “new” stadium can make them up to €350 million (over $380 million) per year. The fully renovated Bernabéu is already paying dividends, hosting Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour concerts among other events, while an NFL game has been scheduled for 2025.

Immediately after Mbappé signed on the dotted line, and even before, Real Madrid began selling jerseys with his name on the back, immediately reaping the financial rewards of having a global superstar on their books. It’s only the beginning.
