How Real Madrid could line up next season

Madrid are preparing for the 2022/23 season. Mbappé will be the star signing, and Militao and Modric will sign new deals ahead of a summer tour of the US.

Erling Haaland is unlikely to join Real Madrid this summer, with Manchester City as his most likely destination. The La Liga club want to strengthen their forward line with Kylian Mbappé. The only way Madrid could now sign Haaland is if both he and his agent, Mino Raiola, lowered their demands. Manchester City have offered them a huge deal, which is expected to lure the Norwegian to the Premier League. There are also doubts surrounding Haaland because of his injury history, however, a front three of Karim Benzema, Vinicius and Mbappé is a frightening prospect for defenders across Europe.

Mbappé to the Bernabéu

Mbappé is the club’s number one priority this season, but there are other positions that will be reinforced. In defence, the club are studying the possibility of signing Chelsea defender Antonio Rüdiger, who is out of contract this summer. The club had already ruled out signing him a few months ago, but the German international’s desire to play for Madrid as well as his Champions League performance at the Bernabéu has made him a real possibility.

The issue with Rüdiger is fitting him into the club’s wage structure. Madrid are finalising the contract renewals of Eder Militao and Vinicius, as both players are set to receive salary boosts and a minimum three-year extension each. Luka Modric will sign a new one-year deal. All three contract agreements will be finalised and announced at the end of the season, possibly even before the team’s pre-season tour of the United States in July, where they will play against AC Milan, Juventus and Barcelona.

Summer departures at Real Madrid

Isco, Bale and Marcelo are all set to depart this summer. The Brazilian’s departure could force the club into signing a left-back, but the possible signing of Rüdiger would give Ancelotti the option of playing David Alaba at full-back, a move that would save Madrid from signing a new player and paying another salary.

Isco and Bale will be replaced with youth players coming through. Marco Asensio could be on the move this summer. Monaco midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni is a target too. The France international is one for the future, a player who is expected to replace Casemiro when the Brazilian’s days are numbered.

Real Madrid’s possible XI in 2022/23

Madrid could line up as follows next season:

Courtois - Carvajal, Militao, Rüdiger, Alaba - Casemiro, Modric, Kroos - Mbappé, Benzema, Vinicius.
