The Clausura 2023 has entered its most critical stage. With just four games left to play, some teams are already beginning to establish themselves as serious candidates for the title, while others remain in the battle to make the playoffs. Due to the number of teams that are still in with a chance of making it to the final phase, no team is mathematically out of the hunt yet, although Mazatlán, in 18th on four points, seem to have lost the battle.

Monterrey continue as the general leader of the competition and are close to ensuring that they finish the regular season in pole position. They are nine points clear of their nearest rival on 34 points. Behind them are Toluca and León, both on 25. América currently occupy the fourth and last direct qualifying position, but Pachuca, Chivas and Tigres are only one victory away from replacing them.

With their away win at Tuzos, Cruz Azul have fully entered the fight for direct qualification, although they have a complicated schedule ahead, with games against León, América, Chivas and Santos Laguna.

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the table, some teams are already focusing on next season despite having chances to qualify. That’s the case of Mazatlán, who have just four points from 13 games and while they are not mathematically eliminated yet, their poor performances out on the pitch (just one win during the past month), suggest that their season is already over.

Bringing in a new coach has done little to help Pumas’ cause. The team is currently penultimate in the general table having lost their last four games so recently-appointed Antonio Mohamed has wotk to do to lift the team.
