Injury setback complicates Raúl Asencio’s exit from Real Madrid
The defender is facing around six weeks on the sidelines after suffering an injury to the rectus femoris his right leg.
Raúl Asencio’s future has suddenly become much more complicated. The young center‑back from the Canary Islands has suffered a muscle injury that will sideline him for roughly six weeks, according to an official Real Madrid medical update.
The timing could not be worse: his departure from the club — something Madrid has been planning for weeks — is now in jeopardy.
The medical report
Real Madrid released the following statement:
“After the tests carried out today on our player Raúl Asencio by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of his right leg. Awaiting progress..”
The injury not only rules him out of preseason action, but also directly impacts Madrid’s transfer strategy.
A key domino in Mourinho’s defensive plan
Asencio’s exit was one of the necessary dominoes for Real Madrid to activate the signing of the center‑back José Mourinho has requested — Alessandro Bastoni. Both financially and in terms of squad structure, Madrid needed Asencio’s departure to move forward with a deal of that magnitude.
Now, with Asencio injured, any transfer would likely require him to leave without medical clearance, a scenario that could scare off potential buyers. Few clubs are willing to commit to a signing when the player cannot immediately pass a physical or begin training.
A setback with real consequences
The injury doesn’t make a transfer impossible, but it does make it significantly more complicated. Any suitor would have to accept the risk of signing a player who won’t be available for more than a month — a tough sell in the middle of the summer window.
For Real Madrid, the delay could stall or even derail the Bastoni operation, forcing Mourinho and the sporting department to reassess their defensive plans.
