Inter Miami manager Tata Martino says his side have improved after 6-2 win over NYRB
The Inter Miami coach was honest in his assessment following Inter Miami’s thumping 6-2 win over New York Red Bulls.
Inter Miami’s victory over New York RB (6-2) at Chase Stadium was a match that stood out for the immense performance of Lionel Messi. The legendary Argentine footballer completed the match with six goal involvements: 1 goal and 5 assists. Two other players who stood out in their contribution towards the victory were Suárez and Matías Rojas, but after the game, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino chose to acknowledge the work of all his players.
Martino was keen to highlight that “in the first half we couldn’t find the passes between the lines. When we did find them, we didn’t turn forward to find the pass in another part of the field. We also couldn’t make progress on the outside because they were good with the wingers on both sides of the pitch”.
“In the second half there is a circumstance that is fundamental, which is the equalizer. That gave us peace of mind. Immediately after the second goal was scored, I think we found the game easier, we had a better circulation, and when we went backwards, I think we did well. It was a match in which we had to take certain risks because the opponent is very intense”, added the coach.
The offensive power of The Herons is evident and Tata mentioned this quality: “The truth is that we have many players with the ability to score goals, so it is clear that at some point in the match we will find favourable moments. The issue is how we get through the unfavourable moments and that doesn’t prevent us from always having to turn games around”.
Martino also provided an analysis of the way the game went: “We have been overcoming adversity for four games in a row. What I do see as an improvement is the fact that in the first two or three minutes of the game we didn’t concede a goal, something that has been common in other games. In any case, the fact that NYRB were superior to us in the first half is because they were able to impose their game over us”.
Finally, Tata was questioned about the goals scored by his players and chose his favourite of the night: “The truth is that everyone had a phenomenal impact on the game, but probably Leo has done something historic which is five assists and a goal in the league, I cannot forget the three goals from Luis, the two from Matias. For the technical movement, I’ll take Luis’ scissors kick.”
