Inter Miami will close out their MLS campaign with a double-header against Charlotte FC. Their faint hopes of making the playoffs were extinguished with the recent defeat to FC Cincinnati, but Miami will be eager to finish a season of great progress on a positive note.

Head coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino will be without the extraordinary talents of Lionel Messi for Wednesday’s game. The 36-year-old is still on international duty with Argentina.

However his options are strengthened by the return of Jordi Alba and Leo Campana from injury. The Miami Herald also reports that Diego Gomez, Jean Mota, Robbie Robinson and Gregore are also in contention to play.

Brazilian midfielder Gregore has been out for the past seven months and has a chance to prove his worth to Martino in the remaining two fixtures. Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s game, Martino said that his coaching staff would use the remaining fixtures to assess some members of the squad.

He said: “For the coaching staff it is important because we are getting back players we haven’t had in a while, and we can use these games to evaluate and help make decisions for next season.”

Will Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba play for Inter Miami?

Despite seeing their playoff hopes dashed, Inter Miami will be eager to close out the season with positive results.

“We want to compete and it’s our obligation to finish the season the best we possibly can,” Martino said. “In some way we want to improve the image of the team from the last three or four games.”

Lionel Messi is expected to be back for Saturday’s game, but former Barcelona teammate Jordi Alba is back in contention on Wednesday.
