INTER MIAMI
Inter Miami set to sign Argentine defender Nicolás Freire from Olympiacos
Inter Miami continue to strengthen ahead of the 2024 MLS campaign and are about to land another defender.
Inter Miami head coach Tata Martino wanted to sign a new defender to strengthen his backline for 2024 and the MLS club are set to give the Argentinian his wish. As he mentioned in a press conference during the presentation of Luis Suárez, Martino was looking to bolster his defence after the departure of Kamal Miller.
According to journalist César Luis Merlo, Argentine defender Nicolás Freire has been chosen by Inter Miami to shore up their defence and he will soon be unveiled by the club. The aforementioned journalist points out that it was Martino who asked for the signing of the former Pumas UNAM player, and negotiations went well with Olympiacos to terminate his contract to be able to join the MLS side.
Will Freire start for Inter Miami?
With Miller moving to Portland Timbers, Martino knew the importance of signing a defender to come into the starting eleven. Freire is expected to fight for the second starting spot at centre-back, with Tomás Avilés competing with Christopher McVey and Sergiy Krivtsov for a place in the heart of the defence.
Freire will join Leo Messi and Co. on a one-year loan deal and is expected to arrive in Miami in the next few hours to undergo a medical and sign his contract with the Fort Lauderdale club.
