WORLD CUP 2022

Iran fans want to know: “Where is Gareth Bale?”

After Iran defeated Wales 2-0 in Group B at the World Cup, the Iranian fans were ecstatic, and had just one question: Where did Bale go?

Wales qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 64 years, but unfortunately for them, that dream quickly turned into a nightmare after their first two games. The first left them with some hope when they came to a draw with USA, but their second dashed those hopes. They lost 2-0 to Iran on Friday morning in a game that almost surely will send them to an early exit from the tournament.

As Gareth Bale and the Welsch side left the game in melancholy, the Iranian fans were overjoyed. Resounding chants of “Where is Bale?” filled the air outside the stadium.

“I really expected to win the match because we are better than Wales,” said an Iranian fan after the victory. “And the guy did a great job. I’m really happy.”

Wales can still qualify but only just

Bale and the Wales team face England in their last group stage match. England tied its match with the USMNT today, which puts the US in third place behind Iran, meaning they will have to get a win against Iran in order to advance. The only way that Wales could advance would be if they both beat England and if the US lose to Iran, and Wales overcomes the superior goal differential of the US to pass them in the table.

“It’s gutting,” said Bale following their loss to Iran. “We are gutted, there is no other way to say it. We fought until the last second, it’s one of those things that’s difficult to take but we have to recover and we have to try and go again.
