Is Haaland injured?

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola reveals that Erling Haaland didn’t play the second half against Dortmund due to a fever and a “knock on his foot”.

Manchester City clinched the top spot in Group G of the Champions League when they drew 0-0 against Borussia Dortmund. Despite clinching the top spot though, the game left City feeling disappointed and concerned. Erling Haaland’s return to Dortmund, his old team, was highly anticipated, but he ended up being taken out after halftime.

Pep Guardiola said after the game that it wasn’t just because they were resting their star for the game they knew would seal their top spot. He took Haaland out do being sick with the flu and a possible foot injury.

“Three things. I saw him so tired. Second one, there was a bit of influenza (fever) in his body. And the third, he had a knock in his foot,” said Guardiola. “That is why he was unable to play in the second half.”

When asked how serious the injury might be, Guardiola said that he does not know right now.

“I spoke to them [the medical staff] at halftime and they were a little bit concerned,” Guardiola said. “But I saw him walking okay at the end.”

Now that City have the top spot in their group safely stowed away, they can relax and rest players in the final group stage against Sevilla next week. They can now focus on the three cup finals that remain in the Premier League before the World Cup. On Saturday, they play an away game Leicester City. It’s yet to be determined if Haaland will play in that game or not.
