Is Karim Benzema leaving Real Madrid? How much would he earn at Al Ittihad?
The striker has not told the club of his decision and nobody at the Bernabéu thinks he would leave without telling Florentino Pérez.
Benzema is still at Real Madrid, at least for now. Florentino Pérez has not spoken to the player and nobody at the club believes that Benzema would leave without telling the president. This, however, is the only certainty right now. A lot of the things that have been published are based on rumours without anything behind them, from the trophy room being prepared for his departure to his supposed meetings with Carlo Ancelotti...
The truth, whatever it may be, is very confusing. Benzema was contacted by an intermediary who represented Saudi Arabia in which he was presented with an offer of €200 million of tax-free money ($215,000,000) over 2 seasons, plus a further sum of money to become an ambassador for the 2030 World Cup bid, but everything was spoken and not made on paper.
What did Karim Benzema say about his future?
Speaking at a media event on the day the rumours emerged, Benzema said “Speak to Madrid fans? Speak about what? Why speak about the future if I’m in Madrid? Who’s speaking is the internet, and the reality is not the internet”.
Benzema and Florentino Pérez have not spoken
Benzema has not been presented with a contract at any moment and he has not taken up the task of even calling the Real Madrid president, who has not spoken regarding the situation.
Given all of this confusion, as things stand, Real Madrid are not taking the idea off the table that everything blows over and Karim remains a player with the club until his contract ends in 2024, a year-long extension which was activated upon winning the Ballon d’Or.
However, on the other hand lies a reality in which the club understand that if this offer turns into something real, which has not yet happened, nobody at the Bernabéu could deny Benzema the opportunity to leave and sign one last contract. For now, he will play against Athletic Club and a goodbye party has not been planned.
