2023 Women's World Cup

Is the US still favourite to win the 2023 Women’s World Cup? Who are the favourites?

The USWNT arrived at the World Cup as the favorite to win an unprecedented third consecutive title. But after a 0-0 draw with Portugal to end Group E play, the only positive thing that could be said is that they advanced to the Round of 16.

Update:

The top-ranked USWNT, seeking a third straight World Cup title, did not appear as tournament favorites during a lackluster and sloppy 90-minute match against Portugal. Portugal seemed more likely to win than the defending champions.

The US team is now in trouble as two countries have caught up with them in terms of odds of winning it all: England and Spain.

All three teams are currently at +430 to become champions.

England, ranked fourth in FIFA’s world rankings, was previously at +350. They won Group D with victories over Haiti (1-0), Denmark (1-0), and China to advance to the knockout stage.

The Lionesses took some time to get their offense going, but they eventually found their footing with an impressive 6-1 victory against China. This win secured a perfect group stage record for them, and they now face the Super Falcons (Nigeria) in the round of 16. England appears to be the most well-rounded among the top three teams, but it remains to be seen if they can maintain their offensive strength against stronger opponents.

Spain shares the top spot on the odds board, even with a 4-0 loss to Japan in its final Group C match. They started the tournament at +550 and began with a 3-0 win over Costa Rica, followed by a 5-0 victory against Zambia.

As a result of the loss, La Roja had to settle for the runner-up position in Group C and will now face Switzerland in the round of 16.
