Is Thibaut Courtois injured? When will he be back?
The Belgian goalkeeper was a surprise omission from the Real Madrid squad ahead of their game against Celta Vigo.
Real Madrid will be without their first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for the Copa del Rey game against Celta Vigo (Thursday 16 Jan, 3:30 p.m. ET / 12:30 p.m. PT).
Thibaut Courtois was a surprise omission from the squad when it was announced the day before the game, with the mood in the Valdebebas camp darkened even further following a humiliating 2-5 defeat to arch-rivals FC Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final.
However, it is not all bad news, and Ancelotti will be able to rely on Courtois in the near future as Madrid continue to fight for LaLiga and the Champions League.
What injury does Thibaut Courtois have?
The good news for Real Madrid fans is that Courtois is not injured, and Ancelotti is simply resting the player. This season, Courtois has featured in 16 LaLiga ties, 4 Champions League games, both Spanish Super Cup fixtures and the UEFA Super Cup.
In his pre-game press conference, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Andriy Lunin would take his place between the sticks and play against Celta.
Who will play for Real Madrid against Celta?
All things point to Modric and Vini Jr starting the game against the Galician side as they are unavailable for Madrid for Sunday’s tie against UD Las Palmas due to suspension.
The game between Real Madrid and Celta will be played on Thursday January 16 at Santiago Bernabéu with kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET / 12:30 p.m. PT. ESPN Deportes will broadcast the game for fans in the USA. Get Real Madrid vs Celta live on FuboTV, which offers a free trial.
