Italy vs Brazil: preview

Italy

Italy’s best performance at the U20 World Cup came in 2017, when the Azzurrini beat Uruguay on penalties to claim third place in South Korea. Carmine Nunziata’s side, who qualified for this year’s tournament thanks to their semi-final finish at the 2022 European Under-19 Championship, head to Argentina on a fine run of form. They’ve lost just once in their last 10 matches, and currently sit top of the U20 European Elite League.

Brazil

Brazil are five-time winners of the U20 World Cup, most recently in 2011. Like Italy, Ramon Menezes’ men go into the tournament in good shape: they’re unbeaten in 12 - a sequence that stretches back to November 2021 - and were crowned kings of South America at February’s CONMEBOL U20 Championship. That trophy triumph earned the Brazilians their spot at the World Cup, along with the three other top performers in the continental tournament.
