Update:

Former Real Madrid midfielder James Rodríguez was taken to hospital in the aftermath of Colombia’s game against France. In a statement from the Colombian football federation, it was revealed that James was suffering from “severe dehydration” and presented symptoms on Monday.

James was taken off after an hour following a lacklustre performance in a World Cup warm-up match against France on Sunday, which Colombia ultimately lost 3-1.

“It has been confirmed, after establishing communication with a medical center in the State of Minnesota, that the midfielder has been under professional observation due to a non-sports-related medical condition,” the federation said. They added that it was for “preventive clinical monitoring and recovery.”

“This situation is not related to injuries”

“The day after the match against France, the player presented symptoms of severe dehydration that required hospitalisation for the past 72 hours for preventative and recovery monitoring.”

“It is important to clarify that this situation is not related to musculoskeletal injuries nor is it linked to the development of his football activities.”

“Fortunately, the current medical report indicates a favourable evolution and a steady improvement,” it concluded.

ESPN reported that Minnesota United’s medical staff accompanied James to the hospital, where the tests and diagnoses were monitored by the club across his 3-day stay. They add that he is now recovering at his Minnesota home.

Minnesota United say they will update James’ match status on Friday ahead of the game against LA Galaxy in MLS. Following a high-profile move to the United States, the 34-year-old has only featured for a total of 39 minutes across 5 games for his club due to injury. Minnesota United languish in the lower regions of the table during the early stage of the Western Conference season, having won only a single game.
