When it rains, it pours. Javier Hernández suffered what looked to be a serious injury in LA Galaxy’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal loss to Real Salt Lake on June 7, and now the worst news has been confirmed. The club already sit rock bottom of the Western Conference, having only won 3 and lost 9 of 14 games this season.

The MLS club released a statement on June 9: The LA Galaxy today announced that forward Javier “Chicharito” Hernández sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during the club’s 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal match against Real Salt Lake on June 7. Hernández will undergo surgery on a date to be determined to begin the rehabilitation process.

How long will Javier Hernández be out for?

The recovery process for an ACL injury is always a long and tough process, both physically and mentally: for a fully fit professional footballer, can take anywhere from 7 months to a year. Javier Hernández, it must be remembered, is no spring chicken; at 35-years-old, it remains to be seen how smoothly his recovery process will go.

LA Galaxy’s next game is against St. Louis City SC at CITYPARK on Sunday, June 11.
