Jenni Hermoso has taken action and announced that she is taking measures after the videos of her statement in the ‘Rubiales Case’ were leaked. Her representation agency (AGM Sport & TMJ) have issued a statement in which they report that they have “exceeded the limits, the basic rights of Jenni Hermoso have been violated”. Consequently, they admit that they will take legal action against those responsible for the leaks to protect and guarantee her privacy. Yesterday the judge reproached the parties for the leaks.

It was only a few hours ago that the video of Jenni’s declaration went around the world. Her statement was released a few hours before Jorge Vilda, her former coach and someone also implicated in the case, went to court and the player has felt very unprotected.

Jenni requests more protection

That is why her legal representatives have conveyed the feelings of the victim, asking for her privacy to be protected as it is being done with the rest of the people involved in the ‘Rubiales Case’. Through a letter they have asked the judge for more security for the rest of the judicial process.

Jenni has felt very unprotected since her declaration went public and her legal representatives have made clear her feelings, asking for her intimacy to be protected as happens with the other people involved in the case. Through a written statement they have asked the judge for more protection.

The statement is as follows:

As Jenni Hermoso’s representation agency, we want to remind that all criminal proceedings must be carried out with guarantees to preserve the right to privacy of the victims.

Until a few days ago we thought that this process offered Jenni a safe environment but the continuous leaks and the lack of such guarantees prevent our player to carry out the process normally.

At all times we have attended and collaborated, as far as possible, with all media and communication partners. However, we can confirm that limits have been exceeded, that Jenni’s basic rights have been violated and that she has been exposed to public opinion again without any kind of consent, violating her data protection rights.

These events not only put her health at risk, but also the reliability and independence of the judicial process in which we have always trusted so much. For all these reasons, and in aiming to redirect the process, Jenni, her legal team and our agency have decided to take different actions to protect and guarantee her privacy. Among them, we have urged the competent bodies to take measures against those responsible for the leaks and to seek solutions to ensure the security and custody of the information of the case during the criminal proceedings.

From the player’s team of representatives we want to remain firm with our management of the process carried out so far, collaborating with the national court, the judge, the Prosecutor’s Office, the security forces and the media to promote the development of the case. (End of statement)

Jenni makes moving speech to world football crowd

As for Jenni herself, she is carrying on with her life and professional career on the other side of the pond. She is fully involved with Pachuca’s season - last weekend she was the main figure in the game against León - and her aspirations of competing in the Mexican league. Also, she was the special guest at the Salón de la Fama del Fútbol Internacional, an celebration that recognises the world stars of the game, which took place in Pachuca. The Spanish international gave an emotional speech in front of distinguished guests such as Francesco Totti and Carles Puyol.

“Thank you for allowing me to enjoy Mexico, as the song says, I’ll keep Mexico with me for the rest of my life” she said. “On August 20 2023, when we lifted the World Cup, I could feel my father’s hands when he took me to training. My mother’s smile watching me play. And the joy from all my family sharing the dream of a young footballer who wanted to be a world champion. I am 33-years-old, but a few weeks ago I was a child again on the pitch.

Although it’s only been a short time, I still ask myself what we actually did on that pitch, We made history, we turned the world around. But deep down we actually changed something much more human, much more transcendental. We didn’t become world champions so that a trophy could sit in a cabinet. We became world champions because that was the only way to feel listened to and respected. My team changed the way to see women’s football for lots of people. I am sure that thousands of little girls around the world have felt protected and identified with this football from brave, committed and honoured players. We have always thought about their future.

So many things have happened since then, we sacrificed some celebrations and happiness. Without deserving it, we suffered more than we should have in a historic moment for us. This is everyone’s fight. We won on the pitch and off it, in order to ensure an inclusive sport and society. To everyone I say, “it’s over”.
