Is Jordi Alba about to sign for Inter Miami?

Alba lifted the Nations League title with Spain on Sunday and could be on his way to Inter Miami after leaving Barcelona.

Jordi Alba was impeccable in both games for Spain on his way to lifting the trophy with La Roja on Sunday. Against Italy, he stopped a goal from going in in the second half, as well as being a threat going forward. Against Croatia, he also defended his area well, and he came close to providing the breakthrough when Marco Asensio’s cross was headed wide.

MLS move on the cards?

His performance at the Nations League gives him a chance at being captain of the national team with a view to the 2024 European Championship in Germany. But first, Alba has to decide his future and sign for a new club. The latest reports link him to Inter Miami, and the club’s managing owner tweeted the following message earlier today. The left-back could be on his way to link up with Lionel Messi at the MLS club.

But a move to MLS would complicate his relationship with the national team. The level of the competition, the distance, and the dates could all interfere ahead of the 2024 European Championship.

Signing for a European team would make things easier, but the player doesn’t want to condition his future for the next few years just because of a one-month competition. It is a question of priorities and personal decisions, including the fact that he will be a father for the third time this summer. After the party at the Wizink, where Spain will celebrate their success in Madrid, it will be time for the full-back to decide on his future after an intense couple of weeks.

On Sunday, he became the third captain to lift a title for Spain after Olivella (Euro 1964) and Casillas (2008, 2010 and 2012). Alba’s decision could be delayed for a few days. Right now, there is interest from Atlético Madrid and Inter Milan. Like so many players recently, he has also received an offer from Saudi Arabia. It remains to be seen where he ends up but he still has a lot to offer.
