Juan Escobar to leave Cruz Azul on loan
La Máquina will remain as the Paraguayan defender’s parent club. Several proposals are being evaluated - he will be loaned out with an option to purchase.
Following Tuesday’s key meeting between Cruz Azul president Víctor Velázquez and Juan Escobar, together with confirmation that the Paraguayan defender will be departing, an number of options have opened up with proposals both in the Liga MX and abroad.
Year-long loan
One possibility discussed during the meeting was for Escobar, who is under contract until December 2025, could be loaned for one year to another Liga MX club with an option to buy the player next year. Others, including international opportunities are being explored, as stated by the player’s agent.
Sources close to negotiations indicated to AS that, although there is interest from several teams in Mexico, there has been speculation in recent hours linking Escobar with Toluca and América. So far nothing has been confirmed, and all options are being evaluated in the hope of closing an agreement soon.
The 28-year-old defender is set to move on from Cruz Azul after spending four and a half seasons at the club. During his time with La Máquina, Escobar achieved notable triumphs, including the Mexican Super Cup in 2019, the 2021 Clausura and the Campeón de Campeones (Champion of Champions) trophy in the same year. In 2022, he added the League Super Cup to his personal honors list.
