The arrival of Julián Quiñones to the Mexican National team is getting closer and closer. The Colombian has now decided that he wants to wear the green shirt of El Tri and shortly after receiving his naturalisation documents, the player will train under Jaime Lozano’s orders as part of the Mexican setup at the High Performance Centre.

According to information from TUDN, Quiñones will be a part of the sessions as Mexico look to prepare for the upcoming friendly games against Australia and Uzbekistan. The source points out that the FMF organised a way in which Quiñones could take part, almost as a ‘guest’, without breaking any FIFA regulations, as he has not yet officially been called up to the squad.

Will Quiñones be called up to the squad?

This is precisely how Quiñones will be a part of Mexico’s training sessions which are set to take place on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, before the team fly to the US in order to play the pre-arranged friendly games.

The short time Julián has with the team will allow him to familiarise himself with his new surroundings and get to grips with how things work under ‘Jimmy’ Lozano, the manager who has overseen the Mexican National Side finally turn a corner and look to put their recent poor tournament results behind them.

‘Julián is Mexican... he feels Mexican’

Lozano recently confirmed that the América winger wanted to join up with his side and select ‘El Tri’, saying “Julián is Mexican, we already talked to him, he feels Mexican. He wants to play for Mexico, he identifies with the life opportunity he has received.”

Quiñones will, as a result of the naturalisation process, be able to be called up for future squads as, according to a multitude of reports, the player has rejected Colombia in favour of his home country.
