Julián Quiñones, the youngest five-time champion in Liga MX history

In the era of short tournaments (from 1996 onwards when the format of the Mexican league underwent an overhaul) a total of 11 players have been proclaimed champions on five occasions. That is quite a figure when taking into account how unpredictable and ephemeral the national league can be. During the past 27 years, those 11 players who have won the title five times achieved a remarkable feat in itself, but the latest to so it, Julián Quiñones stands out for being the youngest.

First title with Tigres

At 26 years old, the forward who was born in the Colombian municipality of Magüí Payán, is in his prime and still has many years left in the game. His won his first Liga MX title when he was just a teenager during his time at Tigres. He was on the bench for two games in the Apertura 2016 Liguilla and picked up a winners medal even though he played no part in the final against América. Three years later, and still without a leading role, he repeated the feat, as Tigres were crown champions lifting the Clausura 2019. He followed that with two consecutive championships with Atlas, a team that had gone 70 years without silverware.

Of the list of five-time champion players, the oldest is legendary Toluca goalkeeper, Hernán Cristante. At 39 years of age, the Argentine was crowned for the last time in the 2008 Apertura tournament.
