Jurgen Klopp spotted in Italy: This is the former Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool manager’s new role
The former Liverpool manager has kept a low profile since leaving Anfield but he popped up at the Winter Olympics this week.
Jurgen Klopp ended his nine-year spell in charge of Liverpool in 2024 and insisted that he will not take another coaching role in professional soccer. So far, he has been true to his word but that doesn’t mean that the German’s love of sport has been dulled.
He has taken a position as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, overseeing the brand’s network of top teams spanning Germany, Austria and the United States, amongst other regions. He is clearly enjoying the freedom that his new position allows him and he made a surprise appearance at the Winter Olympic Games on Tuesday in Italy.
Klopp made an appearance at the men’s biathlon 4x7.5m relay final in Anterselva in northern Italy. Not only was he there as a spectator, Klopp was given the responsibility of ringing the bell that alerts competitors that they are about to embark on the final lap of the race.
Clearly enjoying the role, Klopp was seen shouting encouragement to some competitors from the sidelines. But despite his appearance, the result of the competition may not have been to his liking. France took gold in the event, with Norway and Sweden completing the podium. Klopp’s German compatriot finished in fourth, just missing out on a medal.
For now, Klopp seems very happy with his decision to step away from top-level management despite reports of interest from major clubs. Earlier this week Klopp’s agent Marc Kosicke claimed that both Chelsea and Manchester United had enquired about his availability since leaving Anfield in the summer of 2024, while he has even been touted as a potential option for Real Madrid in the future.
“At the moment, I don’t see that happening, because he’s very happy with his new role and in this environment,” Kosicke said, referring to Klopp’s work with Red Bull. “Maybe at some point he’ll say he needs to smell the locker room again. But at the moment he’s very, very happy in his role.”
