Ángel Di María has spent the last few months preparing for the World Cup, which ended as he dreamed it would. In an unforgettable final, the experienced winger put on a show, setting up the penalty and scoring the second goal. Now it is time to celebrate, but soon it will be time to think about Juventus, who have waited for him and want the World Cup boost to be another incentive to be decisive in the second half of the season.

Di María has seen very little action since arriving in Turin. Between injuries and a two-match suspension for his sending-off against Monza, he has only played 391 minutes. However, it was enough for him to score a goal and provide four assists, showing a talent that the Bianconeri have fallen in love with. La Vecchia Signora want the Argentinian forward to stay for the long term.

Return to Argentina on the cards for Di María

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy, sporting director Cherubini and the player’s agent met after the World Cup with a possible renewal on the table. Juve always wanted to sign him until 2024 (also because of the tax advantages of the ‘Crescita Decree’, which are activated only with at least a two-year contract), but the player preferred to agree to a single year, with the possible aim of returning to Argentina and finishing his career there next season.

The Italians will try to convince him to stay on in Serie A and enjoy a player who still knows how to be decisive at the highest level. Di María gave some hope on the day of his presentation: “Stay for more than a year? We’ll see...”.
