Kevin Castaño bound for Russia after leaving Cruz Azul
The Colombian winger is set to leave the team he joined back in the summer and is believed to be heading Krasnodar.
It looks like Kevin Castaño’s adventure in Mexico has come to an end. According to unofficial sources, and pending a formal announcement from Cruz Azul, the Colombian winger will leave the club to join Krasnodar in the Russian Premier League. Castaño is believed to have agreed a three-year contract, with the Mexican club receiving around 7-8 million dollars as part of the deal.
Top of the table in Russia
The 23-year-old, born in the municipality of Itagüí, in Antioquia, joined La Máquina from Águilas Doradas back in July, signing a four-year deal. But his first season was disastrous - the team ended 16th, failing to make the playoffs which forced Castaño to seek a change of scenery. Krasnodar are enjoying much better fortunes - they are leaders of Russia’s Premier League on 38 points - two ahead of nearest rivals Zenit. The club has other South American players on the books, including Paraguayan Júnior Alonso, Uruguayan Lucas Lanzarote and his compatriot, Jhon Córdoba.
More changes at Cruz Azul
During his brief spell at Cruz Azul, Castaño made a total of 15 appearances - 13 in the Liga MX and two more in the Leagues Cup. He won’t be the only player bidding the club farewell - this morning, César Luis Merlo announced that Colombian forward Diber Cambindo is very close to becoming a Necaxa player.
