When Lionel Messi landed in Paris last August, nobody questioned the role he would inherit as the main force in PSG’s attack.

Kylian Mbappé was immersed in an ongoing transfer saga with Real Madrid. Los Blancos attempted to lure the French forward away from Paris but he ended up staying to join forces with Messi.

Mbappé's in fine form this year and has not signed a new deal with PSG, but focussed instead on becoming the go-to man for the Ligue 1 table-toppers.

The top scorer in Ligue 1 with 20 goals this season, he is also the top assist provider with 14. Mbappé contributes heavily to Messi and Neymar’s numbers, providing the former with several Champions League group stage goals, such as the one against Manchester City in Paris.

PSG aim to keep Mbappé

In Paris, they are still dreaming of keeping Mbappé. Real Madrid remain confident of signing the star forward, who is arguably the best player in world football. He is happy in the French capital, relishing taking a leading role, and is also loved by the fans, a fanbase that has booed Messi, Neymar and Ramos this season.

The latest setback in the last 16 of the Champions League has made Mbappé consider his future, as Madrid wait from a distance.

Mbappé matures

Mbappé has matured on the pitch after last year’s European Championship in which he failed to score a single goal and was heavily criticised for the penalty he missed against Switzerland in the last 16 of the tournament.

He has become a more complete player, adding assists to his game and playing as a number 10 between the lines. His extraordinary numbers explain why PSG want to keep him for many more years.
